Day 7

Day 7- Well it is still raining this morning, but we dressed up in our gear and headed to the ferry at 7:00.On board the ferry to Whittier we saw sea lions, and otters. The fog started to lift in time for us to see ice bergs drifting across the water beside the ship. What a site. Again we saw many waterfalls and lush green mountains. The ocean was beautiful. When we arrived in Whittier we rode to Hope Alaska, but the only way to leave Whittier is either on the ferry or through a 3 mile train tunnel. Each hour the tunnel opens so traffic can travel in one direction or the other. It was a little hairy as Mike and Randy had to manuever along the track in the 4' space between the rails. I took video and pics as we rode through the tunnel. We met some interesting people from Arkansas and another couple from Oklahoma. It was an excellent 4 1/2 hour ferry ride with lots of stories and laughs. We got to Hope, Alaska around 4:30 and got a cute little cabin, Bowman's Bear Creek Lodge, as the temperature is 9 degrees today. The rain has stopped, but it is cold. Hope is right on the ocean. We went down to a little river running into the ocean and watched as people pulled 2-3' pink salmon out. Every minute another fish was caught. Unbelievable day!!!
